Though it seems like yesterday, it was 15 years ago that my wife and I brought home our first child.

Here was this tiny little baby…now what? He looks like he's sleeping … is he breathing? Do we wake him or let him sleep? Why is he crying? If we bathe him, will he slip out of my hands? There we stood peering down at our precious child feeling unsure of how to meet his needs. We were intelligent people, so how difficult could this be? No matter how much we had read, we still found ourselves feeling completely inadequate. We would soon figure it out one diaper and feeding at a time.

Years later we discovered that not only had we brought our newborn home in the wrong car seat, but it was facing the wrong way. I guess you can only imagine that was just one of the many "oops" that happened! I was certain that all of our parent-friends who came before us delighted in the fact that we too were discovering the challenges of new parenting.
